| Based on our policy of responding to the interests and requests of our customers, we have decided to offer a very limited special edition of the stablemate to our recent Y6b, the Norfolk & Western Y6a. We will be producing only fifty (50) pieces of this model and there will not be any auxiliary tenders produced as part of the project, more on this in a moment.
We will produce only four (4) road numbers and there will be four versions to choose from, with the basic choice being lagged or unlagged smokebox. We have determined thus far that only three prototypes operated with a lagged smokebox during their service years, but we are still researching this subject. In addition, although N&W company records indicate that all Y6a's were to receive roller-bearing journals on their tender trucks to date we have only seen two locomotives that utilized what is typically identified as roller-bearing journal boxes, this will be incorporated as another variable in our versions, #2164 in the image above is one of the prototypes that had the roller-bearing journals. We will continue to research this subject as well. As mentioned, we will offer four road numbers, they are: 2156, 2159, 2164 and 2170. As we prepare the formal offering we will describe in detail each of the four variations to be offered. Continue to check the project update page for further details as they develop. |
