Southern Pacific Cab-Forward Project Information

Our practice at Kohs & Company has been to select historically significant as well as unique prototype classes as subjects for our modeling efforts, the Southern Pacific 'AC' series of cab-forwards certainly fits that criteria. Among the most uniquely adapted prototypes ever to operate on American rails, the AC's played a major role in moving large quantities of freight during some of the most critical years in our countries history. Not only did these giants move important freight, they did so under some of the most demanding geographic and environmental circumstances possible. We look forward to applying our cumulative talents to the challenge of bringing these great locomotives to life in miniature. We will be modeling the AC-10, 11 & 12 series locomotives.

We long ago established our basic design and construction philosophy that minimizes compromise and maximizes prototypical fidelity. The starting point for every project including our AC's, is the selection of the best raw materials and then using virtually every available production technique from punched rivets to rapid prototyping in crafting our finished models. The 'Technical' pages located elsewhere on this site explain in greater detail many of the techniques we use and the difference they make in contributing to our Best quality models.

You will see highlighted below some of the unique features our cab-forwards will include, many of which have been industry firsts when introduced with previous projects. There are some new surprises in store with this project, but until they are announced, consider the equaled schedule of features our AC's will provide.
